What is Laparoscopic Surgery?

Laproscopic surgery is a new kind of surgery which gets more and more common nowadays. Another well-known expression is endoscopic surgery. With this method, a surgical operation is performed by the help of a small endoscopic camera and several long, thin, rigid instruments through natural body openings or small artificial incisions (keyhole surgery). This type of surgery, according to the minimum cut has the following advantages.

  • Maintain the aesthetic appearance of skin
  • Significant reduction of the postoperative pain
  • Earlier discharge from hospital
  • Back to work faster
  • Use less painkillers and antibiotics
  • No wound complications like wound infection, hernia of incision, and bleeding
  • Lower hospital costs
  • Reduction of abdominal adhesion

All surgical procedures can be performed inside the abdomen and chest using the laparoscopic technique by expert surgeon. The only limiting factor is lack of the surgeons experience in laparoscopic surgery. The most common surgeries that I’ve done in the past 18 years as the founder of advanced laparoscopic surgery (performing the first splenectomy in Iran) within the country are the following:

  • Sympathectomy and Sympathotomy
  • Thymectomy
  • Oesophagostomy
  • Heller Myotomy
  • Nissen Fundoplication
  • Gastric Bypass
  • Sleeve Gastrectomy
  • Gastric Banding

  • Splenectomy
  • Adrenalectomy
  • Hernia Repair
  • Appendectomy
  • Colectomy
